On Thursday 4th June, our disability officer, Chris Baker and some of our community coaches hosted Berkshire Cricket’s Disability Cricket Festival. Wokingham Cricket Club were generous and offered their facilities for us to use which meant we could have three individual pitches where we played Dynamos Cricket. It was fantastic to see disability cricket played in a competitive environment and we certainly look forward to hosting more of these in the future. All of the children got heavily involved with batting, bowling and fielding and the joy this brought was heart-warming.
The schools that took part in Thursday’s Festival were:
- The Avenue
- Bishopswood
- Addington (Registered two teams)
- Kennel Lane
- The Castle School
- Brookfield’s
Congratulations to The Avenue for being crowned our winners but also a special mention to all the other schools who took part and made the festival a competitive but also fun and enjoyable environment for some fantastic cricket to be played in.
We also promoted our Disability Hub sessions that are delivered throughout the week and saw an expressed interest which will hopefully see more children attend and get involved in cricket, a game for all. Disability Cricket is not just a game but a powerful tool for promoting overall health and well-being among individuals with disabilities. It also offers a platform for physical fitness, mental clarity, and social engagement. Consequently enhancing quality of life and fostering a spirit of inclusion and achievement.
If you are interested in getting involved in some more disability cricket, please express your interest to Chris Baker.
