Girls Blast Finals

U11 Girls Final

Sunday 15th September

Winner – Slough CC

The U11 Girls Blast saw a new name on the shield with Slough being crowned champions. The U11 Girls Blast saw 4 teams from across the county (Slough, Thames Fusion, Emmbrook & Bearwood & Finchampstead) playing U11 Girls hardball cricket this season.

Having lost the toss, Slough were invited to have a bat first. The Slough Girls would post a competitive 126/2 off their 20 overs. Thames Fusion, a combined team from Reading CC, Sonning CC & Wargrave CC set about the chase but thanks to some tight bowling from Slough they would close the innings on 81/3.

Congratulations to both teams for reaching the final and special mention to Thames Fusion who have come together this season to collectively field hardball girls’ teams at U11, U13, U15 & U19!

U15 Girls Final

Sunday 15th September

Winner – Slough CC

Runner Up – Falkland CC

The first game up on Sulhamstead’s main ground saw the U15 final between Slough & Falkland. This would be the first time the two sides met this season with the U15 Girls Blast having enough entries for two groups with the winner of each reaching the final.

Falkland took regular wickets and bowled Slough out for 126. Wrist spinner, Immi Storrar claimed 5 wickets (5/23) while Aanya Sunkersett top scored with 24(25b). A controlled start saw Falkland’s openers both retire having faced 30 balls each and reaching 63 before the 1st wicket fell. However, Slough restricted the run scoring opportunities, and the run rate climbed with regular wickets falling. Falkland were all out on the final ball of the innings for 99, with Slough picking up a 27-run win. Sai Darekar ended with figures of 4/24 and Immi Storrar also contributed 23 runs with the bat.

U19 Girls Final

Sunday 15th September

Winner – Falkland CC

Runner Up – Slough CC

The U19s Final was shaping up to be a brilliant game with two strong sides and Falkland looking to prevent the Slough quadruple. Slough had finished group winners and had won the group stage tie between the two sides in a high scoring affair.

Slough won the toss and elected to field. Falkland openers got off to a flying start with Berkshire 1st Team batters Poppy Camplin 30 (23) and Izzy Storrar 36 (26b) regularly finding the boundary against a strong Slough bowling attack. The first wicket would fall at 69-1 in the 8th over. At no. 3 was Southern Vipers & Berkshire’s Ava Lee who was fresh off the back of playing in the 50 Over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Semi-Final the previous day. Ava continued to take the attack to the bowlers, but Slough managed to trap her LBW on 19 (18b). Slough managed to claw back some control and Falkland would close on 135/5. Sai Darekar continuing her form from the morning game with best figures of 2/21.

Slough navigated the opening overs without losing a wicket and saw off the threat of Ava Lee’s off spin. However, the run rate had climbed as a result. The Slough batters tried to up the rate but Falkland continued to peg them back with pace off the ball and taking regular wickets. Slough ended up reaching 111/6 before the innings ended with Fiza Asif Iqbal top scoring with 23 and Ellie Upton taking 2/7. Falkland regained the shield from the current holders Slough with a 24 run win.

Thanks to Sulhamstead & Ufton CC for hosting all the matches as well as to 1st Team players Izzy Storrar, Poppy Camplin & Ava Lee for presenting the medals/shields!
