Rhodri returns to Wales – We catch up with Head Coach Tom Lambert to discuss his time with the Stags. . .
Rhodri Lewis swaps allegiance next summer as he’s taken the decision to sign with Wales national counties moving forward.
A born and bred Welshman, he returns to his native home having spent the last decade in Berkshire. He arrived as a 12 year-old in 2014 when his parents Simon and Ros moved into Thatcham having ventured North from Somerset where he started his cricket journey.
Rhodders quickly made his mark in the pathway and joined our EPP in 2016 before being offered a place on the Middlesex Academy in 2019. He made his senior debut for the Stags in 2018 being our top performer in an otherwise disappointing T20 campaign. He was a member of our 2019 double winning squad before going on to play a hugely significant role in another double winning campaign in 2022. In 2023 he took the final wicket in our fourth successive trophy win and leaves us having shared the championship trophy with Staffordshire last summer. In all he won three Western divisions, three national county championships and two knockout trophies in his six senior seasons.
“We’ll be sorry to see Rhodders leave but fully respect his decision to move back to Cardiff and in doing so join Wales NC. He never made it not known in our dressing room how Welsh he was and after three years of university and potentially open doors at Glamorgan he feels it’s in his best interest to be closer to Cardiff more permanently. What’s best for any player is the most important thing so we understand his decision and wish him well. He leaves us having played a significant role in a period of unprecedented success.”
“Although still young, Wales will be getting an experienced NCCA performer with a proven track record as a player and as a winner. I want to thank Rhodders for his commitment to Berkshire, myself and the lads during his time with us. You’ll be greatly missed but as always with us, your departure opens another door for one of our own young players to step into. We all wish you well mate and look forward to seeing you at Slough in the summer.”
