Experienced keeper, bat – Iqraa Hussain comes into the side having previously been part of the Middlesex programme. Slough CC based sisters; Fiza & Naaz Asif Iqbal also come into the side and will both make their 1st team debuts. Having joined us on loan last weekend, seamer – Sarah Pearson returns for a second week along with Middlesex’s Anisha Dissanayake and Lucy Porter.
Women’s Head Coach – Tom Jackson said “it is really exciting that we continue to support players who are going on to get opportunities in Tier 1, Tier 2 and Regional Academy cricket. Earlier this week another Berkshire Pathway cricketer made her professional debut with Poppy Tulloch making her Hampshire debut against Warwickshire at Edgbaston. Poppy joined the pathway as an u10 before finishing her County Age Group journey as an U18 last summer. Our pathway players have been very fortunate to have Poppy spend the winter as part of our coaching team from our U11 programme through to U18s. Poppy serves as an amazing role model for girls within Berkshire and demonstrates the pathways available to professional cricket.”
Last Time Out
The Women’s 1st XI first match in the new Tier structure ended in defeat to Devon. In a low scoring match, following heavy rain in the days before the game, Devon managed to chase 147 with the loss of 6 wickets with 2 overs to spare.
Having lost the toss, Berkshire were invited to bat first following a delayed start due to a wet pitch which saw the match reduced to 42 overs per side. The innings got off to a tough start with 4 quick wickets falling, leaving Berkshire 19/4. However, the middle and lower order managed to get the side up to what we felt would be a competitive score based on the conditions. No.10 , Freya Johnson top scored with 28 in a partnership worth 46 with Middlesex loanee Sarah Pearson (23*).
The bowling innings got off to a good start with Freya & Sarah taking the new ball. Devon were 20-2 after 10 overs following a threatening opening spell. However, Devon managed to get two batters set with a 3rd wicket partnership worth 64 runs. The bowlers fought back and pick up more wickets to leave Devon needing 30 runs off the last 10 overs with 5 wickets remaining. The bowlers continued to look threatening and were beating the bat regularly. However, Devon’s no.3 Ellie Bishop remained unbeaten on 63* guiding her side home with 2 overs to spare.
