Anthony Clapham (Berkshire & Pirates) has been called up to the Men’s Physical Disability Squad for their tour to India.
Anthony has gone on to say:
“I was born with talipes (club foot), but always loved sport and cricket in particular. The surgeons said I’d have a very small chance of being able to run let alone play sport.
I have played for Wokingham CC for what would be my 10th year and been involved with the England physical disability side for 2 years although our last international fixture (a World Series final loss to India)) was in 2019 / due to Covid and other factors this will be our first overseas tour since then.
We are playing 5 t20 internationals in Ahmedabad with the final game taking place in the world’s largest cricket stadium Narendra Modi stadium which hosted the recent men’s World Cup final.”
Our Disability Officer, Chris Baker shares his thoughts,
“Winning a series in India is one of the hardest challenges in any sport so it’s brilliant to see the England Physical Disability team have the opportunity to test themselves against the best. A huge good luck to all the team and especially Anthony who plays his cricket in Berkshire. Hopefully, this series can inspire all people with a disability to play cricket and will help demonstrate that the opportunity to travel the world and play for their country is a real possibility.
Summer 2024 will be the biggest yet for disability cricket in Berkshire so please get in touch to find out what opportunities are on offer.
The tournament is scheduled to partake between 24th January 2024 and 7th February 2024, further details on this matter will be announced soon.
