Last Time Out
Round 1 of the T20 County Cup saw Berkshire travel to face Cornwall at Wadebridge CC. The match saw Berkshire come out as winners with a narrow 7 run victory in a closely contested match.
Having won the toss, Izzy Storrar elected to bat first on what looked to be a good wicket. Opening batting pair Alex Avoth & Izzy Storrar (20) looked to put the Cornwall bowlers under pressure in the power with some early boundaries however two wickets in the powerplay plus a further 2 quick wickets as the powerplay ended saw Berkshire in a difficult spot at 36/4 after 8 overs. This saw 16 year old Eliza Bristowe come to the crease. Eliza would deliver a very composed innings finishing with 50 (36b). Having run hard between the wickets the batters staged a rebuild that kept wickets in hand for the side to go hard again in the last 4 overs. 3 consecutive boundaries saw Eliza reach her 50 in the 17th over. Some late order contributions saw Berkshire post 121/9 (20). A total the side thought put us right in it with scoreboard pressure and a strong bowling line up.
The bowling innings didn’t get off the best of starts with pace on in the powerplay proving expensive. Captain, Izzy Storrar quickly went to pace off with young off spinner Naaz (3/14) bowling 3 over in the powerplay going for just 12 runs and removing both opening batters. Fellow off spinner Hollie Summerfield (0/13) returning to the side for the first time having missed last season with injury bowled 4 overs straight through going for just 13 runs. The middle overs saw Cornwall able to pick up runs and stay within striking distance but regular wickets restricted this. This left Cornwall needing 24 off 18 with 4 wickets in hand and having been hit by a time penalty only 3 fielders were allowed out. Mary Briscoe came into the attack to bowl 2 of the final 3 overs and along with Freya Johnson was able to restrict Cornwall to just 17 runs.
