This past Sunday saw the return of the Women’s Softball World Cup, a celebration of cricket, culture, and community.
Now in its second year the Women and Girls Development Officer, Michelle had a vision was to create an event that not only champions women’s cricket but also showcases the rich diversity we’re lucky to have across the county.
With Michelle supported by an all-female Berkshire staff team, the day ran seamlessly, full of fun, energy, and sportswomanship. We kicked things off with a high-energy group Zumba warm-up led by fitness instructor Rebecca, which set the tone perfectly. The ladies absolutely loved it and were ready to hit the pitch with tonnes of energy.
Six fantastic teams took part, representing India (Reading Lions CC), Sri Lanka (Maidenhead and Bray CC), West Indies(Crowthorne and Crownwood CC), Malta(Emmbrook & Bearwood CC), Ireland(Wokingham CC), and New Zealand(Henley CC). It was brilliant to see such a wide mix of clubs involved, with both familiar faces and new players stepping up to take part.
The tournament was played in great spirit, and after a series of competitive and exciting matches, the final came down to India vs. West Indies. In a thrilling finish, India took home the trophy, congratulations to the champions!
With the Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup just around the corner and taking place right here at home, we’re already buzzing with ideas on how to make next year’s event even bigger and better for its third edition.
A very special thank you goes to Crowthorne & Crown Wood Cricket Club for hosting us for the second year running. Your support, enthusiasm, and hospitality are always appreciated and help make this day so special.
