Berkshire Seniors Weekly Round-Up
It was a frustrating week for Berkshire Seniors, with the weather having a significant impact on the fixture programme. Of the four scheduled matches, two were lost to rain, one fixture was conceded, and only the 60+ 1st XI took to the field.
The 60+ 1st XI travelled to Surrey for their National Division 1 South fixture but found runs hard to come by against a disciplined home attack. Gerry Bacon top-scored with 40 and Pav Midha added 26 as Berkshire were restricted to 100 for 9. A rain interruption resulted in Surrey being set a revised target of 96 from 34 overs, which they reached without loss thanks to an unbroken opening partnership between Chris JS Evans and Sanjay Beri, securing a ten-wicket victory.
The 60+ 2nd XI’s National Division 2 fixture against Surrey at Horsley & Send CC was cancelled due to rain before any play was possible. Similarly, the 50+ 2nd XI’s Group C match against Buckinghamshire at Henley-on-Thames CC also fell victim to the weather.
Unfortunately, Berkshire’s 60+ 3rd XI were unable to fulfil their National Division 3 fixture against Cornwall at Grampound Road CC and were forced to concede the match.
Results Summary
- 60+ 1st XI lost to Surrey by 10 wickets (rain-affected match)
- 60+ 2nd XI vs Surrey – Cancelled due to rain
- 60+ 3rd XI conceded to Cornwall
- 50+ 2nd XI vs Buckinghamshire – Cancelled due to rain
With the weather disrupting much of the week’s programme and only one Berkshire side taking the field, attention now turns to the coming fixtures as the county’s senior teams look to return to action and build momentum during the summer months.
