Meet the Team: Munir Umer
Role: Urban Development Officer
Start Date: February 2024
Organisation: Berkshire Cricket
About His Role
Munir leads our efforts to connect cricket with urban communities across the county. He works in schools, delivers street-sessions and oversees our street-programme, all aimed at increasing participation and providing pathways that give individuals access to the game—often for the very first time.
What He Loves Most
“Giving as many individuals the chance to play cricket, often for the first time—and giving them access to further opportunities in their local area.”
Munir is driven by the chance to make cricket accessible and relevant to everyone, especially in areas where traditional club routes might be less established.
Off the Field
Cricket and football keep him busy and he’s been likened to Watford Captain and midfield Dynamo Imran Louza on many an occasion!
Sporting Hero
His sporting inspiration is Kevin Pietersen, who he says “was flamboyant on and off the field… I first watched him in the 2005 Ashes and that sparked my interest in cricket. He had the ability to score all around the ground and was ahead of his time.”
Vision for Cricket
“Can’t be out off a full toss… I’ve missed/plinked a few!”
Munir uses humour to keep things real, while also bringing a mindset of continuous improvement. He believes strong fundamentals count—on the streets, in the nets, and on the field.
Fun Fact
Back in his schooldays, Munir entered public-speaking competitions. He even made it to the Houses of Parliament—showing that his ability to engage and inspire comes as naturally as his love for sport.
Favourite Quote
“Those destined for great destinations do not have weak hearts.” (an Urdu saying, translated)
This ethos reflects Munir’s commitment: bold, resilient, and always striving for something bigger.
We’re proud to have Munir on board, championing cricket in our urban spaces and helping make our game more inclusive and vibrant across Berkshire. If you’d like to connect with Munir and learn more about his programmes, please head to our team page.
