Berkshire Seniors Update

May 7, 2026
Berkshire Seniors Cricket – Weekly Report (4–7 May 2026)

It was a full and varied week for Berkshire senior cricket across the 50+, 60+ and 70+ age groups, featuring a welcome win, a number of hard-fought fixtures, and several challenging encounters against strong county opposition.

While results were mixed, there were clear signs of competitive cricket throughout, with individual performances of high quality and several matches turning on key passages of play rather than one-sided dominance.

There were multiple games from our senior teams across the weeks which can be viewed here  – BERKSHIRE RESULTS

MCC Midweek XI v Berkshire Over 50’s 1st XI

MCC won by 47 runs

MCC Midweek XI posted 252 for 8 from 45 overs after choosing to bat, built around a commanding century:

  • R Richardson – 116 off 95 balls (11 fours, 5 sixes)

His innings anchored the MCC total and ensured that early wickets did not derail momentum. Despite several Berkshire bowling efforts of control, Richardson’s ability to shift gears defined the innings.

In support, MCC recovered from 47/3 to post a strong total, with useful middle-order contributions ensuring the innings never stalled.

In reply, Berkshire Cricket 50+ 1st XI reached 205 all out in 39.3 overs.

There were starts, but no sustained partnership to match the weight of Richardson’s innings. The closest resistance came from Richard O’Toole (47), who held the innings together late on, but wickets fell regularly enough to prevent any real chase development.

Kent Over 60’s 1st XI v Berkshire Over 60’s 1st XI

Kent won by 124 runs

Kent 50+ 60+ 1st XI elected to bat and posted a commanding 297 for 6 from their 45 overs.

Their innings was built around three major contributions:

  • John Butterworth – 93 (95 balls)
  • Philip Hulston – 67 (61 balls)
  • John Olufawo – 65 (37 balls), striking at 175

The defining phase came in the middle-to-late overs, where Kent accelerated strongly without losing wickets, moving from a solid platform into a match-defining total.

In reply, Berkshire Cricket 60+ 1st XI were dismissed for 173 in 43.1 overs.

The batting effort struggled for partnerships, with only brief resistance through the middle order. The chase never developed a stable anchor innings, and the required rate steadily increased as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Berkshire Over 50’s 1st XI + v Surrey Over 50’s 1st XI

Berkshire won by 39 runs

Berkshire Cricket 50+ 1st XI produced the most complete performance of the three-match block, posting 252 for 4 from 45 overs.

The innings was anchored by an outstanding unbeaten century:

  • Mannu Rawat – 124 not out (140 balls, 15 fours)

Key support came from:

  • Pete De Lange – 51 (66 balls)
  • Jason Vaughan-Davies – 22 (20 balls)
  • Duncan Johnson – 22 (20 balls)

The key feature of the innings was control: Berkshire lost only four wickets and ensured steady scoring throughout, finishing strongly rather than relying on late recovery.

In reply, Surrey were restricted to 213 for 9 from their 45 overs. Berkshire’s bowling effort was disciplined, with wickets falling at regular intervals to prevent any sustained partnership from developing. The 39-run margin reflected consistent control across both innings.
