Lewis , Rishton and Salter shine through in commanding victory over Herefordshire CC

Berkshire produced an outstanding all-round performance at Wargrave Cricket Clubto secure a vital victory and keep their hopes alive in a fiercely competitive group stage campaign.
After winning the toss and batting first, Berkshire’s innings was built around a magnificent century from Rhys Lewis, whose aggressive yet controlled stroke-play put the visitors under pressure from the outset. Lewis dominated the attack with a superb knock that combined clean hitting with smart running between the wickets, providing the platform for Berkshire to post an imposing total. Ben Salter then added valuable late momentum with a composed innings that ensured Berkshire finished strongly.
Berkshire’s bowlers backed up the batting effort brilliantly. Captain Andy Rishton led from the front with an excellent opening spell, striking early to put the opposition immediately on the back foot. The pressure created by the new-ball attack allowed Berkshire to control the game throughout the middle overs, with regular wickets preventing any sustained recovery.
The fielding effort matched the intensity shown with both bat and ball, as Berkshire maintained high standards throughout to complete an impressive victory in front of a decent crowd at Wargrave.
Head coach Bjorn Mordt was delighted with the response from his side after last week’s disappointment.
“I am really pleased with that performance after last week. Rhys Lewis was immense with the bat and Ben Salter played a very mature innings. Captain Rishton led from the front with the ball in an excellent opening spell. We now need to beat Wiltshire next week to have a chance of making the quarterfinals in a really competitive group.”
