Berkshire Cricket Seniors teams endured a challenging week across the age groups, with one standout victory helping to balance a run of heavy defeats.
On Tuesday 19 May, the Berkshire 60+ 2nd XI were beaten by Kent 50+ by 64 runs. Chasing a revised target of 241 from 45 overs, Berkshire finished on 176/5, with Kent posting 240/5.
The Berkshire 60+ 3rd XI suffered an even tougher outing against Oxfordshire Seniors CC, who piled up 248/8 before bowling Berkshire out for just 67 in 33.2 overs — a defeat by 181 runs.
There was better news for the Berkshire 50+ 2nd XI on Thursday 21 May. They produced the county’s best performance of the week, defeating Hampshire Seniors CC by 54 runs after posting an impressive 239/7 from their 45 overs and restricting Hampshire to 185/8.
However, the Berkshire 50+ 1st XI were unable to build on that success, losing heavily to Essex Seniors Cricket. Berkshire were dismissed for 175 in 34.3 overs, while Essex had earlier amassed 354/7, resulting in a 179-run defeat.
The Berkshire 70+ 1st XI also found Surrey Seniors too strong, falling short after Surrey made 251/5. Berkshire closed on 154/9, giving Surrey a 97-run victory.
Overall, Berkshire recorded one win from five matches during the week, with the 50+ 2nd XI providing the highlight performance.
