Girls MCCF Programme Continues to Thrive with Memorable Summer Fixtures
This summer has seen the MCCF Girls Programme continue to go from strength to strength, with players enjoying a number of fantastic opportunities to test themselves against high-quality opposition.
Our U14 Reading and Slough Hubs travelled to Basingstoke in May Half Term to take part in a festival of cricket against teams from Basingstoke and Wiltshire. It was a fantastic day of competitive cricket, with players gaining valuable match experience and continuing to develop their skills! Congratulations to the Reading team, who finished the day as overall winners.
We also hosted our internal round of the MCCF Knock Out Comp, this was an exciting U17 fixture between our Reading and Slough Hubs, which was held at Sulhamstead & Ufton CC. Reading coming out on top! This meant that it was all to play for when we hosted the South Oxfordshire Hub at The Oratory School a couple of days later. After another competitive encounter, however, congratulations go to South Oxfordshire, who secured victory and will represent our region in the next stage of the competition. We wish South Oxfordshire the very best of luck in the knockout stages and look forward to following their progress.
Our Reading/Slough Development Hubs were delighted to be invited to take on touring side The Tekanda Foundation from Sri Lanka at the picturesque Hyde End Farm. It was a wonderful occasion for everyone involved, providing invaluable experience for our players in a fantastic setting. At the beginning of July, a select group of players from our Performance Hubs travelled to Eltham College in London for a memorable day of cricket. The squad faced both Eltham College Girls’ 1st XI and the Afghan Refugee Team, with both matches offering an excellent standard of cricket and a brilliant opportunity for our players to develop their skills and experience. It was a huge honour to be involved in such a special day, celebrating the game and the friendships it creates.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the MCCF and everyone involved in organising these fixtures.
It is a privilege for our players and coaches to be part of these matches, and we are incredibly grateful for the opportunities to represent the programme and continue supporting the growth of girls’ cricket.
We now look forward to the summer holidays, when our U17 Reading and Slough teams will meet again for a rematch at Purley on Thames, while our U14 players will have another opportunity to represent the programme at a further festival day, this will be held at Sulhamstead & Ufton on the 31st August.
