Women’s 1st XI Face Cambridgeshire at Falkland
Berkshire Women’s 1st XI return to Metro Bank One Day Cup action on Sunday 16 August, when they welcome Cambridgeshire Women to Falkland Cricket Club with another important victory in their sights.
Berkshire currently sit second in League 3 Division 1, with four wins from five completed fixtures and 20 points. Only Devon sit above them, having won all five of their matches to collect 24 points.
With Staffordshire third on 14 points, Berkshire have established a strong position in the table but will know there is little room for complacency with the competition entering its closing stages.
Cambridgeshire looking to bounce back
Cambridgeshire currently sit seventh in the table with four points from four completed matches, having recorded one victory and three defeats.
Their most recent fixture came last Sunday against Cheshire, where they were beaten by six wickets. Cambridgeshire were bowled out for 158 in 44 overs, before Cheshire reached the target in 29.4 overs.
However, Cambridgeshire have already demonstrated their ability to produce a strong performance in the competition. Their victory came against Staffordshire on 26 July, when they posted an impressive 293 for 4 from 48 overs before restricting Staffordshire to 250 for 9 from their revised 42-over target.
That result shows the threat Cambridgeshire can pose and ensures Berkshire will be expecting another competitive challenge at Falkland.
Berkshire in strong form
Berkshire come into the fixture having won their last two completed matches.
Their most recent outing saw them produce an impressive 63-run victory over Staffordshire, scoring 220 for 9 before bowling their opponents out for 157 in just 34.5 overs.
That followed a convincing seven-wicket win over Cheshire, where Berkshire chased down 211 with plenty to spare, reaching 212 for 3 in 34.3 overs.
Those two performances have underlined Berkshire’s strength across both disciplines, with the batting unit capable of building competitive totals and the bowling attack consistently creating pressure.
An important fixture at Falkland
With Devon maintaining a perfect record at the top of the table, Berkshire will be looking to keep pace with the leaders and strengthen their position in the final stages of the campaign.
A win on Sunday would take Berkshire to 25 points, while another strong performance would provide further momentum ahead of the closing fixtures.
Cambridgeshire will arrive looking to respond after their defeat to Cheshire and will be keen to reproduce the form that earned them victory over Staffordshire. Berkshire, however, will be aiming to make home advantage count and continue what has been an excellent League 3 campaign so far.
