Kennet School Win Inspire Award

Kennet School makes history with Lord’s Taverners Inspire Award

Kennet School in Thatcham has been recognised for its outstanding work using Table Cricket to create inclusive sporting opportunities for students, becoming the first school in the history of the Lord’s Taverners Impact Awards to receive the prestigious Inspire Award.

The school attended the Lord’s Taverners Annual Impact Awards at the Kia Oval in London at the start of October, where the award was presented in recognition of the significant impact Kennet School is making through Table Cricket.

The Inspire Award celebrates the inclusive environment created at Kennet, where students living with a disability are encouraged to participate, achieve and aspire through sport.

The school’s physical disability resource has used Table Cricket to help students develop confidence, life skills and sporting ambitions, while also supporting their GCSE and BTEC Sport studies. The dedication of Kennet’s teachers and staff has helped create a culture where students can develop their skills, become coaches and role models, and engage with their peers through sport.

Lord’s Taverners Director of People and Programmes, Gabby Shirley, spoke to students, parents and Mr Joyce at the awards and heard first-hand about the impact Table Cricket is having on the school community.

“ It was fantastic to speak with the students, their parents and Mr Joyce and hear first-hand how Table Cricket has made such a positive impact on their lives and the wider school community. Kennet School is a brilliant example of how inclusive sport can create opportunities for young people, and we would love to share its experience to inspire other schools to get involved.”

Table Cricket has become an established part of Kennet School’s annual Games Festival, providing opportunities for students across the school community to take part, demonstrate their abilities and experience the benefits of inclusive sport.

The school will also once again be represented at Berkshire Cricket’s annual Table Cricket Finals in January, continuing its involvement in competitive Table Cricket and providing further opportunities for students to develop their skills and enjoy the game.

The Inspire Award represents a fantastic achievement for everyone involved at Kennet School and is a fitting recognition of the work being carried out by its teachers, staff and students to use sport to challenge perceptions, promote inclusion and create opportunities for all.

A huge congratulations to everyone at Kennet School on this fantastic and historic achievement.
