Berkshire men head to Devon for a top of the table clash in the last group trophy game. This will be an entertaining game with both teams coming off convincing victories the week before.
Berkshire are currently unbeaten in the group after another excellent performance at Falkland on Sunday where they dispatched Buckinghamshire CC.
Berkshire lost the toss on Sunday and fielded first. Our attack was spearheaded by Andy Rishton and Euan Woods who immediately reduced Bucks to 30 for 3. Unfortunately Euan Woods had to leave the field with a broken thumb which brought into the attack our exciting debutant Ben Salter who immediately caused problems with his pace and swing and returned excellent figures of 1 for 30 in 10 overs. Captain Dan Lincoln led the team brilliantly with some excellent catches behind the stumps and some shrewd bowling changes. Bucks were eventually bowled out in the last over for 246 runs with Andy Rishton returning brilliant figures of 4/49 ably supported by Toby Greatwood with figures of 2 for 52.
Berkshire openers,Rhys Lewis and Jonny Connell, started strongly and reached 61 inside 9 overs before Jonny departed. In came Charlie Dunnett who along with Rhys continued to attack and pushed Berkshire to the 150 mark. Charlie was eventually out for an excellent 45 off 64 balls. Unfortunately for Bucks this brought Archie Carter to the crease who increased the tempo with some beautiful lofted drives. Rhys Lewis brought up his match winning 100 off 106 balls and was last man out with just 2 runs needed. Rhys’ innings was quite brilliant and the large crowd were entertained with some exquisite cricket shots. Archie Carter finished unbeaten on 63 off just 54 balls.
Berkshire head coach, Bjorn Mordt, was full of praise for the young Rhys Lewis, “I ask all my top order batters to be selfish and not leave it to anyone else to win games, I want them to take that responsibility and be the one to walk off having won the game for their team. Rhys did just that today and with Jonny getting a 100 last week and Rhys this week, the season couldn’t have started better. Devon next week away will be another tough test for my young side but they have shown that they are ready.”
With Euan Woods injured Berkshire will add Adam Searle to the squad for the trip down to Devon in what will no doubt be a great game.
