Decisive Win for Womens 1st XI Ahead of Showcase Day

September 9, 2025

Sunday 7th September saw the Women’s 1st XI return to action in Berkshire for the first time since June. The visitors to Binfield CC were 6th placed Cambridgeshire who were just off the back of scoring 300 against Hertfordshire to pick up their first win of the season.

Having lost the toss, Berkshire were invited to bat first. Shristi Patil (23) was joined by Naaz Asif Iqbal (6) as this week’s opening partnership and got off to a solid start with the score moving quickly to 22 before the fall of the first wicket. Another 20 runs were put on for the 2nd wicket before the powerplay ended 42-2. Poppy Camplin (26) and Izzy Storrar were able to continue to build a foundation and moved the score to 100 when the 3rd wicket fell. This brought Cesca Sweet to join Izzy at the crease. Following a steady start to set a platform the batters were then able to put their foot down and the 4-wicket partnership was able to put 79 runs on in 69 balls. This included Izzy Storrar bringing up her half century, finishing on 60 (77b) when she was removed in the 36th over. Berkshire were then able to go hard at the back end of the innings putting on 79 runs in the last 6 overs. Cesca brought up her 3rd fifty for Berkshire this summer finishing 80* (56b) and Eliza Bristowe finished 33* (27b)

The side once again showed their quality with the ball throughout the Cambridgeshire response. A high-quality swing bowling spell with the new ball saw the runs restricted and 3 wickets picked up in the powerplay with 2 for Freya Johnson (3/33) and 1 for Emma MacEwen (2/21). Through the middle phase a combination of pace bowling from Mary Briscoe (1/15) and a short ball spell from Eliza Bristowe and spin from Shayna Chikhlia (3/20) and Naaz Asif Iqbal (1/32) were able to create enough chances to break through the Cambridgeshire defences to dismiss them for 158.

This means the Women’s 1st XI picked up another bonus point win which moves us back up to 2nd place with 1 game to play. A positive result will pretty much secure us a place at finals day as we host 4th place Bucks. Meanwhile 3rd place Staffordshire, who are 1 point behind us on 19pts, host top of the table Devon.
