Berkshire Over 70’s XI Embark on New Era as Standalone Team
It was a mixed week for the Berkshire senior sides across the county programme as the season continued to gather momentum. The highlight of the week saw the Berkshire Over 70s play their first ever fixture as a standalone county side in the Over 70s County Championship, marking another important step in the growth of senior cricket within the county after a hugely successful 2025 season paired with Oxfordshire when they jointly lifted the County Championship.
The week saw some strong individual performances as Berkshire continued to compete well in both the 50+, 60+ and 70+ county competitions despite a challenging round of fixtures, most notably Steve Clarkes 73* in a losing cause against Sussex and Chad Cudjoe’s 4-29 in defeat to Oxfordshire.
Despite some challenging results the counties senior sides will keep building momentum as the season continues in to the second half of May and beyond and hopefully with an upturn in the weather an upturn in results will follow.
