Chance to Shine Cricket World Cup Festival Inspires Hundreds at Lord’s

More than 400 young people came together at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on Wednesday 20 May for the Chance to Shine Cricket World Cup Festival, a celebration of inclusive cricket aligned with the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

The festival welcomed state school children from across the country for a memorable day of cricket skills, games, and inspiration, designed to engage young people and showcase the opportunities available through the sport.

Hosted by renowned broadcaster and former England cricketer Mark Nicholas, the event featured a number of high-profile guests and inspirational figures from across the game and wider sporting world. Participants enjoyed a variety of cricket-based activities throughout the day, with a strong focus on inclusion, teamwork, and enjoyment.

The festival was led by an array of inspirational female coaches and role models, helping to highlight the growing impact and visibility of women’s cricket ahead of this summer’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Berkshire Cricket was proud to support the event through the involvement of Berkshire coaches Michelle Jeyarajah, Verity Johnson, Penelope Gwynne, and Becky Hartnett, who helped deliver engaging sessions and create a positive experience for all involved.

The atmosphere at Lord’s was electric, with young people taking part in skills challenges, small-sided games, and interactive activities on the famous outfield. The day provided many participants with their first experience of playing cricket at the Home of Cricket, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Chance to Shine continues to play a vital role in inspiring young people through cricket, and events such as the Cricket World Cup Festival demonstrate the power of the game to bring communities together and encourage the next generation of players, volunteers, and fans.

Berkshire Cricket would like to thank Chance to Shine, the event organisers, volunteers, and all supporting staff for delivering such an inspiring and impactful day at Lord’s.
