🌟 Staff Spotlight: James Woodford – Talent Pathway Coach
We’re delighted to introduce James Woodford, Berkshire Cricket’s Talent Pathway Coach! Since joining the team in October 2024, James has been at the heart of developing and supporting young players across our boys’ pathway programmes.
About His Role:
James manages the U13–U18 Boys Age Groups and can often be found in the sports hall working with players from U10s to U18s. His role focuses on coaching, mentoring, and helping players maximise their potential as they progress through the pathway.
What He Loves Most:
“I’m very fortunate to work full time in a sport I love and have the opportunity to work with players who are passionate about developing.”
James thrives on seeing players grow—both in skill and confidence—and is committed to creating an environment where young cricketers can enjoy the game while pushing themselves to reach new levels.
Off the Field:
When he’s not coaching, James plays for Finchampstead CC during the summer and supports Aldershot Town FC — proud Wembley winners on May 11th 2025! (Up the Shots!)
Sporting Heroes:
In cricket, James looks up to Ian Bell for his elegant cover drive and Graeme Swann, who he believes is “the best spinner England have had.”
In football, his hero is Mark Molesley — an Aldershot legend whose leadership and passion for the game inspire him.
Vision for Cricket:
James believes in continuous improvement, summed up perfectly by his personal motto:
“‘Will over skill.’”
He’s passionate about building a pathway where effort, attitude, and determination are valued just as highly as natural ability.
Fun Fact:
James was born at home — his mum couldn’t get to the hospital in time, so his dad delivered him himself! A dramatic entrance for someone now shaping the next generation of players.
If He Could Change One Rule in Cricket:
“Free hits for no balls in all formats of cricket!”
Berkshire Cricket is proud to have James on board, using his experience, passion, and energy to inspire the county’s next generation of talented players.
