A Call to Berkshire Clubs: Hosting County Youth Cricket in 2026
Berkshire County Cricket is already looking ahead to the summer of 2026 and, once again, we are seeking the support of our local clubs to help host County Youth Age Group fixtures.
Our youth county programme sits at the heart of the Berkshire cricket pathway. It gives talented young players the chance to test themselves against strong opposition, develop their skills, and represent the county with pride. These opportunities simply would not exist without clubs across Berkshire generously making their grounds available during the season.
We recognise that hosting county youth matches comes with challenges. Summer weekends are busy, pitches are in high demand, and clubs rely heavily on volunteers who already give so much of their time. Any club that agrees to host a fixture is making a genuine commitment to the wider game, and that contribution is hugely valued.
Clubs that have hosted in previous seasons often highlight the positives. County youth matches bring high-quality cricket to the ground, raise the profile of the host club, and provide an inspiring experience for junior members who can watch county players perform on their own square. For many young players, seeing county cricket up close is a powerful motivator.
We aim to work closely with all host clubs to ensure the experience is as smooth as possible. Fixtures are scheduled well in advance, pitch preparation is discussed collaboratively, and we place strong emphasis on respecting facilities and leaving grounds in excellent condition. Wherever possible, we are also keen to acknowledge and promote host clubs through our communications.
By hosting a County Youth Age Group match, clubs play a direct role in shaping the future of cricket in Berkshire. The players taking the field today may be the county, regional, or professional cricketers of tomorrow — and they will remember the clubs that helped make their journey possible.
If your club is able to support the youth county programme by hosting matches in the summer of 2026, we would love to hear from you. Your involvement makes a real difference, and we are extremely grateful for the continued backing of clubs across the county.
