ECB Umpiring Course Last Chance to sign up in in Berkshire before 2026 Season starts
Aspiring cricket umpires across Berkshire are invited to take their first step into officiating with a new Introductory Cricket Umpiring Course, taking place on Saturday 21 February 2026.
The course is designed to give new umpires the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to stand in matches, with no prior umpiring experience required. It is suitable for anyone looking to support cricket at all levels, from Junior Softball through to adult cricket.
Participants will gain a strong foundation in the fundamentals of umpiring, including:

Understanding the role and responsibilities of the umpire

A basic introduction to umpiring the game of cricket

Answering appeals and recognising common methods of dismissal

Communicating effectively with players, coaches, and officials

Assessing playing conditions and judging whether it is safe to play
The course combines classroom-based learning with practical, on-field activities, giving learners the opportunity to apply their knowledge in realistic scenarios. Attendees are advised to dress appropriately for practical sessions.
As part of the programme, learners will also complete a short e-learning module prior to the course. This pre-learning takes no more than 90 minutes in total and can be completed in one session or across multiple visits.
The course is open to anyone aged 14 or over at the time of attendance and costs £70.00.
With the ongoing need for officials at all levels of the game, the course offers an excellent opportunity for players, parents, volunteers, and cricket enthusiasts to get involved and support the future of cricket in Berkshire.
