Berkshire Cricket Young Volunteers Programme

The Berkshire Cricket Young Volunteers programme, powered by the Young Cricket Collective, took place last week at Waingels College and St Bartholomew’s School. These two courses brought together young people aged 14–18 for an engaging day of learning, development, and practical experience within cricket.
Across the day, participants completed three modules designed to build key skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and organisation. The course also supports Duke of Edinburgh’s Award volunteering hours, enhances CVs and future applications, and provides a valuable first step towards becoming a qualified coach, umpire, or scorer. Just as importantly, it offered a fun, social, and inclusive environment for all involved.
As a result, participants are now equipped with the skills and confidence to support their clubs in a variety of roles, including Activator, Club Volunteer, Official, and Scorer.
‘Marcus really enjoyed his day and learned an awful lot. He looks forward to taking what he has learnt back to Sonning and supporting them as needed. He will also take a lot on board with regards to his understanding of the game we all love’.

This programme presents a fantastic opportunity for clubs to benefit from increased volunteer support, fresh ideas, and stronger community engagement. We encourage clubs to welcome these young volunteers and provide opportunities for them to put their skills into practice—whether at training sessions, matches, events, or wider club initiatives.
The Young Cricket Collective is all about empowering young people to shape both their own future and the future of cricket. With the continued support of clubs, this programme will play a vital role in developing the next generation of volunteers and leaders within the game, and we look forward to creating even more opportunities in the future.
