Schools’ Festival Season Kicks Off with SEND Skills Event

The outdoor schools season kicked off on Tuesday with a SEND skills festival at Great Hollands Recreation Ground for local primary schools in Berkshire.

On a sunny April’s day, 51 children from 7 primary schools, Holly Springs, Binfield, Kings Academy Binfield, St Margaret’s Clitherow, Jennets Park, St Michael’s & Warfield attended the event which saw participants rotate around several different skills stations to practice their batting, bowling and fielding. Each school was paired up with another school, and this provided the opportunity for the children to socialise with their peers and make new friends.

The event was supported by some very enthusiastic young leaders from Garth Hill College who were brilliant in encouraging each child to try their best. As the afternoon went on, the children’s confidence began to grow and the improvement in their skill level was evident to see.

To finish off the day there was a giant game of Rapid-Fire Cricket. This allowed schools the chance to compete against another school in an adapted game of cricket. The children all tried their best to score as many runs for their team before their teachers joined in to try and boost their scores. The energy from everyone was fantastic to see and it was a brilliant way to finish off an excellent afternoon of cricket.

The schools each received some goodies as a well done for taking part. This included bracelets, flyers, the brand-new Berkshire Cricket handbook and plenty of information about how they can be involved in cricket this summer.

A big thank you to Claire and Matt from the Bracknell Sports Partnership for helping to organise the event. Our next SEND event will be the soft ball festival at Wokingham in July.
