Following in the footsteps of Table Cricket, Lords Taverners held its first regional soft-ball cricket competition at the beautiful Berkhamsted Cricket Club on Wednesday 17th June. Designed to mirror the Table Cricket pathway of county, regional and then national finals, schools from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cricket East and Hertfordshire competed for the chance to represent Thames Valley at the national final in July.
The Avenue School in Reading were selected to represent Berkshire having won the county final in 2024 and 2025.
After two closely fought contests which ended in 6 and 10 run defeats respectively, the team got their first win in their third game against Denbigh School from Milton Keynes. Displaying some fantastic teamwork and clever tactics, the team were able to post a competitive score of 244 before bowling and fielding superbly to win by 16 runs.
This meant their final game of the day would be the third-place playoff. Chasing 228, the team showed great composure reach their target steadily. Each batter demonstrated some excellent batting skills with most batters hitting the ball to the boundary during their time at the crease.
A third-place finish was a fantastic achievement for the school. They played the game in great spirit and helped to contribute to an amazing day for all coaches, umpires and players.
The Avenue will now switch their attention to our County Final at Wokingham CC on Thursday 2nd July to see if they can complete the three-peat of county wins.
