Wiltshire Claim Victory at Henley as Berkshire Fall to Championship Defeat
Berkshire suffered defeat against Wiltshire at Henley Cricket Club in a hard-fought three-day NCCA Championship encounter, with the visitors securing a comprehensive victory after an absorbing contest.
Having won the toss, Berkshire elected to bat first and posted 295 all out, with Charlie Dunnett producing an outstanding innings of 110 from 161 balls. His composed knock, which included 18 boundaries, provided the backbone of the Berkshire total.
James Isbell also made an important contribution with 62 from 95 balls, while Andy Rishton added 47 and Samm Daniel struck a brisk 38 from just 37 deliveries. Lewis Sharp remained unbeaten on 12 as Berkshire were eventually bowled out in the 73rd over.
Wiltshire responded strongly, building a commanding first-innings total of 364 all out and establishing a 69-run lead.
Jack Mynott was the standout performer with a superb 158, while Jacob Lintott added 77 and Jake Goodwin contributed 51. Berkshire’s bowlers worked hard throughout, with Euan Woods leading the attack with an excellent 4-124 from 25 overs. Samm Daniel claimed three wickets, while Lewis Sharp and Andy Rishton took one apiece.
With the deficit to overcome, Berkshire knew a strong second innings was essential. Unfortunately, the Wiltshire attack made early inroads and Berkshire were dismissed for 147, leaving the visitors a modest target.
Euan Woods again top-scored with 28, while Toby Greatwood battled impressively to remain unbeaten on 28. Lewis Sharp added 12 and Samm Daniel 11, but Wiltshire’s Joe King proved particularly effective, claiming 5-61, with Sam Freestone taking four wickets.
Wiltshire required just 79 to win and reached 82-2 in 15.1 overs. Will Naish finished unbeaten on 15 and Ed Young was unbeaten on 17 to complete the victory.
Despite the result, there were plenty of positives for Berkshire to take from the three days. Dunnett’s magnificent century was a major highlight, while Isbell’s 62, Woods’ four-wicket haul and the efforts of the entire bowling attack demonstrated the fight and commitment within the side.
The Championship campaign continues to provide valuable opportunities for the Berkshire squad, and the experience gained from contests such as this will be important as the team continues to develop and compete.
