Berkshire Cricket Announces Safe Hands Courses for Club Safeguarding Officers
Berkshire Cricket is encouraging clubs to ensure their safeguarding responsibilities are up to date by booking onto one of three Safe Hands courses being delivered across Berkshire during the 2026/27 closed season.
The Safe Hands course is designed for new and existing Club Safeguarding Officers, providing the knowledge and understanding needed to help create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for children within cricket clubs.
Three courses have been scheduled for the coming months, giving clubs a choice of dates and locations:
- Monday 9 November 2026 – 6pm
Wargrave Cricket Club – Book your place - Monday 11 January 2027 – 6pm
Falkland Cricket Club – Book your place - Wednesday 17 March 2027 – 6pm
Crowthorne and Crown Wood Cricket Club – Book your place
Supporting clubs to safeguard children
Club Safeguarding Officers play an important role in ensuring that children and young people can enjoy cricket in a safe and positive environment.
The Safe Hands course covers key areas including:
- The role and responsibilities of a Club Safeguarding Officer
- Working with others to create a safe and welcoming environment for children
- The policies and procedures clubs should have in place
- How to respond appropriately when a safeguarding concern arises
The course is an important part of ensuring Club Safeguarding Officers have the confidence, knowledge and understanding to carry out their role effectively.
Is your Club Safeguarding Officer up to date?
Club Safeguarding Officers must complete a Safe Hands course when appointed and every three years thereafter to remain qualified in the role.
They must also complete the Safeguarding for Specialist Roles – Committee Members online training and hold a valid DBS.
Clubs are encouraged to check their safeguarding records ahead of the new season and make sure their Club Safeguarding Officer is fully up to date with all required training and checks.
