Women’s Softball – Cup and Plate Finals
What a fantastic season it has been for women’s softball in Berkshire, with plenty of competitive cricket, great team spirit and a real celebration of the inclusive and social nature of the game.
The season came to a close with two exciting finals, showcasing the enthusiasm and commitment of the women’s teams across the league.
Cup Final
The Emmbrook and Bearwood CC Ladies team rounded off a fantastic season by securing both the league title and the cup, completing a memorable league and cup double for the first time.
The Cup Final against Crowthorne and Crown Wood CC was a closely fought contest, made even more challenging by the weather. After winning the toss and choosing to field, Emmbrook and Bearwood produced an excellent all-round performance, combining disciplined bowling with strong fielding to restrict their opponents’ scoring.
They then chased down the target with composure to secure the win.
Following last season’s League and Plate success, this year’s league and cup double marks another fantastic milestone for the team and is a fitting reward for their hard work, consistency and commitment throughout the season.
Plate Final
The Plate Final between Reading Lions and Wokingham, played on Saturday 12th of September, was a wonderful showcase of everything that makes women’s softball so enjoyable.
Played in a fantastic spirit, the match featured enthusiastic support both on and off the field, creating a brilliant atmosphere for everyone involved.
Reading Lions batted first after losing the toss, posting 283, with S Anand (18) and Darshan Kaur (11) leading the scoring. They lost four wickets, shared between four different Wokingham bowlers.
Wokingham responded with a strong batting performance, finishing on 348. Chandrika Sharma (17) and Tisha Garnes (15) were the top scorers, with two further batters reaching double figures. Wokingham lost just one wicket, taken by Shreetika Kerawani.
The Plate Final was a fitting way to celebrate the season. Competitive, friendly and full of the fun and inclusive spirit that continues to make women’s softball such a great part of the Berkshire cricket community.
