Berkshire Seniors Update – Weekly Round-Up

It was an unusual and frustrating week for Berkshire Seniors Cricket, with all scheduled fixtures across the county programme cancelled due to the extreme heat conditions.
With player welfare and safety the priority, the decision was taken to call off all matches during a period of exceptionally high temperatures, ensuring that players, officials and volunteers were not placed at unnecessary risk.
A number of teams had been due to return to action across the 50+, 60+ and 70+ programmes, with County Championship and friendly fixtures scheduled throughout the week.
The cancelled fixtures were:
Tuesday 23 June
- Kent 50+ 60+ 1st XI v Berkshire Seniors 60+ 1st XI
- Berkshire Seniors 60+ 2nd XI v Sussex 50+ 60+ 2nd XI
- Berkshire Seniors 60+ 3rd XI v Bucks Over 60s 3rd XI
Wednesday 24 June
- Berkshire Seniors 50+ 2nd XI v Oxfordshire Seniors Over 50s 2nd XI
Thursday 25 June
- Berkshire Seniors 70+ 1st XI v Warwickshire Seniors Over 70s 1st XI
After a busy period of cricket across all age groups, the enforced break was disappointing for players keen to continue their campaigns, but the decision reflected the importance of putting health and safety first.
The squads will now look ahead to the next round of fixtures, with hopes of cooler conditions and a return to competitive action across the Berkshire Seniors programme.
