Checkendon CC Lift Keith Mitchell Memorial Cup with Victory Over Shinfield
Checkendon CC were crowned Reading Midweek Cricket League Cup (Keith Mitchell Memorial Cup) champions after producing an impressive all-round performance to defeat Shinfield in the final.
After winning the toss, Shinfield elected to bat first but found runs difficult to come by against a disciplined Checkendon bowling attack. Despite some determined resistance, they were restricted to 89/9 from their allotted 15 overs.
Gitmoy Basu top-scored for Shinfield with 21, but wickets fell at regular intervals as Checkendon maintained control throughout the innings. Pavan Kumar was one of the standout performers, claiming 3-27, while Abraham Lincoln produced an excellent spell of 3-12 to put Shinfield under sustained pressure. Ravi Srinivas also played a key role with the ball, finishing with impressive figures of 2-15, ensuring Shinfield were unable to build the partnerships needed to post a more challenging total.
Chasing 90 for victory, Checkendon approached the target with composure despite losing wickets along the way. Karan Sheth led the scoring with a valuable 19, providing the platform for the chase, while Shinfield fought hard to keep themselves in the contest.
Satish Patel was the pick of the Shinfield bowlers, returning figures of 3-20 to give his side hope of defending their total. However, Checkendon remained in control, with Sreejith Kenchath and Ravi Srinivas holding their nerve to steer the side home with three overs remaining and four wickets in hand, sealing a deserved victory and the league’s premier cup competition.
The win capped off an excellent campaign for Checkendon CC, whose disciplined bowling performance laid the foundations before a composed run chase secured the Keith Mitchell Memorial Cup.
