Hampshire XI defeat Berkshire by 79 runs in Showcase Game
A century from Fletcha Middleton and a devastating five-wicket haul from Felix Organ guided Hampshire XI to a convincing 79-run victory over Berkshire in an entertaining Showcase Game at the Utilita Bowl Nursery Ground.
Batting first, Hampshire XI posted an imposing 349 for 7 from their 50 overs before dismissing Berkshire for 270 in 42.2 overs.
Hampshire’s innings was anchored by Fletcha Middleton, who compiled a superb 106 from 129 balls, striking eight fours and three sixes. Nick Gubbins contributed 28 before Tom Prest added 18 as Hampshire built steadily through the middle overs.
The innings gathered momentum through Ben Brown, whose fluent 80 from 72 balls featured 12 boundaries, before Felix Organ accelerated with a lively 43 from 31 deliveries.
The final flourish came from Dom Kelly, who blasted 51 from just 16 balls, clearing the ropes five times and striking four boundaries in a remarkable late cameo that lifted Hampshire XI to a formidable total.
For Berkshire, Charlie Dunnett impressed with 3 for 34, while Abdullah Iqbal claimed 2 for 52 and Nilesh Bhandari picked up one wicket.
Berkshire responded positively through captain Rhys Lewis, who made 30, and Johnny Connell, whose attacking 79 from 63 balls included 12 fours and two sixes. The pair gave Berkshire an encouraging start before Dom Kelly made the breakthrough.
James Isbell continued the chase with an excellent 78 from 72 deliveries, while Charlie Dunnett added a well-made 57 as Berkshire reached 252 for 2 and looked capable of mounting a serious challenge.
However, Hampshire XI turned the game decisively in the closing stages. Felix Organ produced a match-winning spell, claiming 5 for 52, removing Isbell before dismissing Ben Salter, Ed Campion and Samm Daniel in quick succession to spark a collapse.
Nick Gubbins then finished the innings with 3 for 35, as Berkshire lost their final eight wickets for just 18 runs to be bowled out for 270.
Hampshire XI’s victory was built on an excellent all-round performance, with Middleton’s century providing the platform, Kelly’s explosive finishing stretching the total beyond Berkshire’s reach, and Organ’s outstanding five-wicket haul ensuring the visitors’ promising chase ended in defeat.
