Senior Sides Set for Finals Action as Berkshire Continue Strong Championship Run
Berkshire Cricket’s senior sides head into another important week with three teams contesting finals or semi-finals, while the 60+ 1st XI also return to action in a friendly against Wiltshire.
50+ 1st XI face Devon in Plate Semi-Final
Berkshire’s 50+ 1st XI face Devon Over 50s 1st XI at Falkland CC in the 50+ County Championship Plate semi-final.
Berkshire reached the last four with an excellent five-wicket victory over Staffordshire, chasing down 307 with Craig Williams scoring 147 and Mannu Rawat 72.
A place in the Plate final is now at stake against Devon.
70+ 1st XI face Norfolk in Bowl Semi-Final
The 70+ 1st XI travel to Saham Toney Cricket Club to face Norfolk Seniors CC Over 70s in the Seniors County Cricket Championship 70+ Bowl semi-final.
Berkshire booked their place with a convincing 100-run victory over Buckinghamshire, scoring 306-8 before restricting Bucks to 206-6. Ian Stuart scored 89, Phil Ridgeway 57 and Ronnie Brock 52 in an excellent batting display.
The team will now look to go one step further and secure a place in the Bowl final.
50+ 2nd XI face Yorkshire in Championship Play-off Final
Berkshire’s 50+ 2nd XI have reached the Championship Play-off Final, where they face Yorkshire Cricket Foundation Over 50s 2nd XI.
Berkshire earned their place in the final with a 22-run victory over Kent, posting 226-7 before restricting Kent to 204-9.
Pankaj Garg (58), Daniel Gear (52) and Ian Dawkins (45) led the Berkshire batting effort, before an excellent bowling performance secured the victory.
The squad will now look to complete an impressive campaign by lifting the Championship Play-off title.
60+ 1st XI host Wiltshire
The 60+ 1st XI return to action with a friendly against Wiltshire County Seniors CC 60+ 1st XI at Purley on Thames.
The fixture follows their five-wicket Championship defeat to Hampshire and provides another opportunity for the squad to enjoy competitive cricket.
60+ 2nd XI bow out in frustrating circumstances
Berkshire’s 60+ 2nd XI saw their Championship campaign come to an end against Cornwall at Wadebridge.
Berkshire produced an excellent batting performance to post 220-6 from 40 overs, led by a superb 110 from Pav Midha and 50 from Gary Clarke.
Following rain, Cornwall were set a revised target of 137 from 22 overs. Berkshire bowled well and reduced Cornwall to 96-5, with Rahul Mohindru taking 3-18 and Chris Symonds claiming two wickets.
Cornwall eventually reached 137-6 to win the game.
The result was particularly disappointing given Berkshire’s strong performance, with the application of the DLS method and the resulting revised target proving unsatisfactory and frustrating from Berkshire’s perspective.
Despite the disappointing conclusion, the 60+ 2nd XI can take plenty of credit for their performance and their efforts throughout the competition.
