Tom Lambert looks ahead to the Men’s 1st Team Campaign

April 5, 2024

Review of the winter and preview of pre season for news letter:

Opening pre season game off!

Unfortunately our men’s 1st XI opening pre season game of the 2024 summer against Cardiff UCCE in Newport has been cancelled. The recent weather has put pay to any chance of the game going ahead that was due to be played this coming Sunday 7th April.

The lads completed their final indoor session of the winter on Wednesday and now look to get outdoor preparations underway with a two day training camp at Wormsley Estate on the weekend of the 13th and 14th April. On the Saturday the boys will have use of the ground for the day whilst on Sunday we welcome Middlesex Academy for two T20 contests. Pre season then concludes the following weekend (April 21st) as the team travel to Westbury to take on Wiltshire CCC in the traditional Marlborough Cup curtain raiser ahead of the NCCA T20 cup starting the following weekend (April 28th) as we host Hertfordshire at Wargrave CC.

We caught up with head coach Tom Lambert to review the winter and look ahead to pre season.

“The winter has gone really well and the boys have worked hard. I can’t have asked more of them to this point. As always at this time of year we’re glad to see the back of indoor training and excited about getting outside. It’s a shame our opening game with Cardiff UCCE has been beaten by the weather but we have further opportunities the following two weekends to get outside, we just need the weather to play ball! Many of the squad have games under their belt already with their counties or universities so we’re certainly in a better place than we were this time last year.”

“Wormsley and Westbury still affords myself and Dan opportunities to get valuable game time into the squad ahead of the competitive season starting on April 28th.”
