Purley Potterers go national

Purley on Thames CC Walking Cricket team the Purley Potterers were part of a national walking cricket competition at Worcestershire’s New Road last week. In only their second year of existence, the team were incredibly excited to be part of this wonderful opportunity. Over the course of the day, the team played 5 games, winning 2 and losing 3.

Their wins came against Essex and Central Worcester in which they amassed over 300 runs in both games, eventually winning by 46 and 31 runs respectively. The highlight of the day come in the form of a terrific catch by one of the women players Julie Cook. Captained by Colin Ainger, the team demonstrated terrific batting, bowling and fielding throughout the day.

There has never been a better time for clubs to get involved with Walking Cricket. There are numerous opportunities locally, regionally and nationally to be involved in the game. 2026 will see the introduction of the new Berkshire Cricket Walking Cricket League and more clubs are encouraged to join what promises to be an exciting new competition.
