
Berkshire completed an entertaining T20 double-header against Oxfordshire at Wargrave, sharing the honours across two contrasting contests in front of a strong home crowd.
The opening game produced a high-scoring thriller that narrowly went Oxfordshire’s way, before Berkshire responded emphatically in the second match with a dominant all-round display to secure a comprehensive victory.
Match One – Oxfordshire won by 2 wickets – Scorecard
Berkshire posted an imposing 180-9 from their 20 overs after an explosive start at the top of the order.
Johnny Connell led the early charge with a stunning 43 from just 13 balls, striking six fours and three sixes at a remarkable strike rate of 330.77. Rhys Lewis provided strong support with 24 from 14 deliveries as the hosts raced to 64 inside four overs.
Ben Salter continued the momentum with an aggressive 36 from 23 balls, while Andrew MacEwen added a composed 21 in the middle order. Useful late runs from Andy Rishton and Nilesh Bhandari helped Berkshire close on 180.
For Oxfordshire, Julian Laird and Zach Lion-Cachet each claimed three wickets to slow the innings after Berkshire’s flying start.
In reply, Oxfordshire chased the target down in 18.2 overs despite Berkshire reducing them to 33-4 early in the innings.
Euan Woods struck first to remove Harrison Parker, while Andy Rishton and Samm Daniel also made early breakthroughs to put Berkshire in control. Toby Greatwood then dismissed both Hayden Rossouw and Julian Laird to keep the pressure on.
However, Rossouw’s counter-attacking 57 from 26 balls shifted the momentum before Tom Hinley’s composed 34 helped guide Oxfordshire towards the target. Late hitting from Sravan Konidena eventually sealed victory with ten balls remaining.
Berkshire’s bowling effort was led by Samm Daniel and Toby Greatwood with two wickets apiece, while sharp fielding contributed two run outs during an entertaining contest.
Match Two – Berkshire won by 114 runs – Scorecard
Berkshire bounced back in superb fashion in the second fixture, producing a commanding all-round performance to secure a dominant 114-run victory.
Batting first, Berkshire amassed 191-8 from their 20 overs thanks to another explosive start from Johnny Connell and Rhys Lewis.
Connell blasted 35 from only 14 deliveries, while Lewis anchored the innings superbly with 55 from 33 balls, striking five fours and three sixes. Ben Salter added a quick-fire 20 before James Isbell continued the momentum with an impressive 31 from 22 balls.
Although Oxfordshire fought back through Julian Laird’s four-wicket spell, Berkshire maintained their intensity through the closing overs with valuable contributions from Charlie Dunnett, Sulaiman Akhtar and Andy Rishton.
Defending 191, Berkshire’s bowlers delivered an outstanding performance to dismiss Oxfordshire for just 77 in 12.4 overs.
Andy Rishton made the perfect start by removing Harrison Parker with the first ball of the innings before Euan Woods and Rhys Lewis ripped through the top order. Lewis was particularly impressive, claiming 5-30 from his four overs as wickets fell regularly throughout the chase.
Sulaiman Akhtar also struck with his only over, while Nilesh Bhandari chipped in with a wicket as Berkshire completed a comprehensive victory.
The result ensured Berkshire finished the day on a high after an entertaining and competitive T20 double-header at Wargrave.
