Berkshire Walking Cricket Cup

The Berkshire Walking Cricket Cup took place at Purley on Thames Cricket Club on Wednesday 19 August, with four teams battling it out in a fantastic day of walking cricket.Purley on Thames CC, Holyport, Falkland and Mortimer & West End all took part, with six entertaining matches played across two pitches.

Purley on Thames CC Finish Unbeaten

It was a highly competitive competition, but Purley on Thames CC proved to be the standout side, winning all three of their matches to finish top of the table with 6 points.

Purley began their campaign with a 15-run victory over Holyport, scoring 119/3 to Holyport’s 104. They followed that up with another impressive win against Mortimer & West End, scoring 128/3 to beat MWE’s 113.

Their final match saw Purley take on Falkland, with another high-scoring contest ending in a 15-run victory for Purley, who posted 142/3 against Falkland’s 127.

Holyport finished second with 4 points after victories over Mortimer & West End and Falkland. Falkland collected 2 points following their win over Mortimer & West End, while MWE finished the competition with a valuable day of cricket and plenty of enjoyment despite not recording a victory.

Supporting the Growth of Walking Cricket

As part of the event, each participating club was presented with a kit bag containing bats, balls and stumps, providing them with the equipment needed to help develop and grow their walking cricket offer at their clubs.

The equipment has been funded through a grant kindly secured from the Berkshire Community Foundation, supporting Berkshire Cricket’s ongoing work to make walking cricket more accessible and encourage more people to get involved in the game.

More importantly than the results, the day provided an excellent opportunity for players to enjoy competitive cricket, meet fellow walking cricketers and celebrate the continued growth of the game across Berkshire.

A Huge Thank You to Purley on Thames

A huge thank you goes to everyone at Purley on Thames CC for hosting such a fantastic event and helping to make the day such a success.

In particular, a very special thank you to Martin and Karen Bishop for all their hard work in organising the competition and for providing a fabulous lunch for everyone involved. Their time, effort and hospitality were hugely appreciated by players, officials and everyone attending.

It was a brilliant day of walking cricket, with plenty of competitive action, good humour and camaraderie – exactly what the Berkshire Walking Cricket Cup is all about.
